Sunrise Energy Metals has made an important personnel change. As the company announced, John Mullumby will become the new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) effective August 24, 2026. He takes over the position from Trevor Eton, who will, however, remain with the company in a new role. Eton will move to the board of directors and serve as a non-executive director. With this new appointment, the Australian specialist for battery metals strengthens its leadership team for the upcoming tasks in its major projects. Future CFO Mullumby looks back on a career of more than 25 years in the raw materials and finance industry.

Before joining Sunrise Energy Metals, he held the same position at gold producer Gold Road Resources. His professional career also includes management positions at Newcrest Mining, the mining company Nyrstar, and the consulting firm Deloitte. According to media reports, Mullumby brings extensive experience in the financial management of complex mining projects, which is likely to be of central importance for the future direction of the company. The transition at the financial helm is proceeding as planned, while the company continues to pursue its operational goals.

The fact that the previous CFO Trevor Eton remains with the company as a director is intended to ensure continuity in strategic planning. Mullumby will take on his new role at a time when financial alignment and securing investments are crucial for the next development steps. Strategically, Sunrise Energy Metals is focusing on the further development of the Syerston Scandium Project in the Australian state of New South Wales. The goal is to achieve a leading position in the provision of critical raw materials for the battery market. A key element of this strategy is the company's proprietary Clean-iX technology.

This is a special process for metal extraction using ion exchange resins, which is used for the efficient purification and extraction of raw materials. This technology forms the technical backbone for the targeted production of high-quality metals. The Syerston project is considered one of the world's most significant deposits of scandium and cobalt outside of Africa. The combination of resource-rich deposits and modern processing technology is intended to position the company as a reliable supplier for the global energy transition. The announcement of the personnel change came at a time when battery metal developers are under increased scrutiny in the financial markets.

Despite the clear succession plan, the stock recently suffered losses.
