2026, 6:06 PM By: Lisa Häfner Comments Print Share Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche visited the defense company Hensoldt AG in Fürstenfeldbruck. In addition to insights into the work, there was also news. Fürstenfeldbruck – „Warfare has changed significantly,“ said Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) during her visit on Friday morning in Fürstenfeldbruck. The company Hensoldt AG, which develops, among other things, software systems for drone defense, had invited the Minister of Economics to its site in Brucker Westen.
„Thank God we are not meeting for the first time,“ Reiche addressed Oliver Dörre, CEO of Hensoldt AG, which acquired the Brucker company ESG in 2024. Since taking office, there has been a lot of contact, according to the minister, with a view to the war in Ukraine and the Middle East. „And the threats are not going away,“ said Reiche. Growing companies like Hensoldt show how great the demand is. “ The Federal Ministry of Economics sees itself as a partner here. Germany has an efficient defense strategy. „And especially here, around Munich, we have numerous startups,“ said Katherina Reiche.
„We must no longer rely on others for critical components, for the production of weapon systems, for defense,“ she emphasized. „Thank you for supporting our country,“ the minister said, addressing the Hensoldt CEO. We see ourselves as „an important contribution to security, but also to the German economy,“ emphasized Hensoldt CEO Dörre. Of central importance, however, are the people who make the company unique. Another 1600 new employees are also to be hired this year. “ The information and experience gained there, in turn, flow into the continuous improvement of the system.
For this purpose, an office has been set up directly in Ukraine. Dörre presented a Hensoldt AG system that is in use there to the minister: the „TRML-4D,“ an airspace surveillance and target acquisition radar, mounted on a truck. „Ukraine has ordered about 50 radars,“ said Dörre. To be faster here, they are working with automotive suppliers. In the future, they plan to expand an existing site in Ulm and build a factory. Production capacities are to be massively expanded.
