Alibaba Cloud plans to operate more data centers worldwide. Europe is a key focus. The first region in the Netherlands will launch in October, with Finland and Turkey to follow within a year. The site in Germany is also growing. Alibaba Cloud announced its next expansion step at its in-house Apsara Conference in Hangzhou. Within twelve months, the group will open cloud regions for the first time in Turkey, Finland, and the Netherlands. The Dutch region is scheduled to go into operation as early as October 2026. Finland will be the first Alibaba region in Northern Europe. Simultaneously, existing locations, including Germany and France, are growing. Outside Europe, Alibaba is expanding in Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, and Hong Kong. Today, the group operates 107 availability zones in 31 regions. What is a cloud region? A cloud region is a geographical location where a provider operates multiple data centers. Within a region, there are usually several availability zones, which are supplied with power and network independently of each other. Customers choose the region and thus determine where their data is located. Alibaba justifies the expansion with the demand for cloud and AI services that are locally available.
