  • [image] An image of a mortise shear lock, identified in comments as a Schlage GF3000.

  • [comment u/Any_Inspection9286] GF3000 is simultaneously the most expensive and worst shear magnet at the same time. GF3000 draws .450 Amps which is double the average magnet. If you install this in a wood frame especially its going to get "hot" every time.

  • [comment u/isellshit] I HATE THESE LOCKS Rather stab myself than use them

  • “Hot = resistance. Resistance = faulty electrical component. Replace. The only part of this that's repairable without risking voiding whatever minimal safety this thing has is the cables leading into it. I've never run them on 24v but it's a known issue that 24v introduces minor faults. Not well versed enough on electrical theory to say exactly why, but my theory is that device's are designed to”

How hot is "hot" idk? the human body is a poor judge of temperature and what it thinks is hot is often just fine for electronics.”

  • “Was it hot when you arrived? Always interesting when things like this come up- how did they even know it was hot? Probably other issues if they’re feeling its temperature. I don’t have experience with this specific mag but following this thread just in case I do.”
