Ascension Sacred Heart Bay to open new inpatient rehab facility

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) -Ascension Sacred Heart Bay will offer inpatient rehabilitation care on its campus for the first time. The hospital is in the early stages of an $11 million project that started construction last Monday. The new facility will have 18 beds. Hospital leaders said the community’s growth and aging population led to the need for more inpatient beds. Robin Godwin, president and CEO of Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, said the facility will open in spring 2027. “This rehab facility, which will open in the spring of 2027, represents a vital piece of continuity of care for patients in our community,” Godwin said. Godwin said the $11 million project is meeting a growing need. “As our community ages, and also as we have more people moving to the community. For example, a big component of patients that are transitioning into the IRF are from our trauma population,” Godwin said. “We’ll serve over 2,500 trauma patients this year, which is the largest volume of patients we’ve served since trauma designation.” The facility is being built on the fifth floor of the South Tower. “We will have shared community spaces, all brand new, all private rooms,” Godwin said. “The finishes that will be in this facility are gonna be beautiful - top of the line, excellent equipment.” Godwin said each patient will get a personalized, multi-disciplinary care plan, with the goal of...
