Four startups--Ayar Labs, PicoJool, Polaris Electro-Optics and Quintessent--have recently received new funding. These startups are separately developing new products to address the bottlenecks in AI data centers and other applications. PicoJool PicoJool, a supplier of vertical cavity surface emitting laser (VCSEL) products, has raised $27.5 million in Series A funding. The funding was led by Socratic Partners, with participation from Hudson River Trading. The financing follows a $12 million seed round led by Playground Global and brings the company’s total funding to $39.5 million. Based in Palo Alto, Calif., PicoJool will use the funding to expand its teams and facilities in the United States and Taiwan as it brings its VCSEL and optical link products to market. PicoJool is working with Win Semiconductor and other gallium arsenide (GaAs) foundries to ready its 200G VCSELs for production. Taiwan’s Win is a specialty foundry vendor. PicoJool is developing next-generation optical chips and modules for high-bandwidth, low-cost connectivity in hyperscale AI data centers. Polaris Electro-Optics Polaris Electro-Optics has recently announced $50 million in new financing to bring its electro-optic modulator platform to production.
