Stablecoin issuer Circle has published a post-quantum security roadmap for its layer-1 blockchain Arc, outlining a phased approach to deploying quantum-resistant protections across the network's full technology stack. The rollout will begin with quantum-proof wallets and signatures at Arc's mainnet launch, currently expected sometime in 2026. That feature will be opt-in at launch, while solutions at the validator level and across surrounding infrastructure are planned for later phases. "Quantum resilience cannot live only in research papers, exploratory pilots, or distant roadmap slides. It has to show up in the infrastructure," Circle said. The roadmap follows warnings from Google and researchers at the California Institute of Technology that functional quantumcomputing could arrive sooner than previously expected and require significantly less computing power than earlier estimates suggested. Google stated that quantum computers could potentially break Bitcoin's cryptographic protections in as little as nine minutes, a timeline that has sharpened urgency within parts of the industry. Circle flagged that wallets with previously exposed public keys face particular risk. "Active addresses that have already signed transactions must migrate before Q-Day because their public keys have been exposed," the company said. It described inaction as a risk that the industry can no...
