One of the locations was just steps away from the new CVS at 2275 Washington St. Then, in 2024, Walgreens closed down another Roxbury location at 416 Warren St., sparking protests from residents. The closures made it difficult for residents to access pharmacies, many of which were over 20 minutes away on foot. In April, the Boston City Council said it would examine a proposal to create a pharmacy stabilization and access fund to help residents maintain access to medications and vaccines in their neighborhoods, as more chain drugstores pull out of Boston.
