COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Dominion Energy shareholders and customers are holding a press conference on Saturday calling on investment managers to vote against the proposed merger between Dominion Energy and NextEra. The event is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Richland Main Library, 1431 Assembly Street, in Columbia. The group is calling on Dominion shareholders to slow the merger process ahead of a Sept. 3 special shareholder meeting, when shareholders are scheduled to vote on the merger. Freeda Cathcart, a Dominion Energy shareholder, advocate and founder of the Common Sense Coalition Guide, is expected to discuss her efforts to slow the merger. Dominion shareholder and customer Pam Greenlaw, Dominion customer the Rev. Beth Goss, and Frank Knapp, president and CEO of the South Carolina Small Business Chamber of Commerce, will join her. Cathcart said investment managers need more time to make an informed decision and fulfill their responsibilities to clients. The South Carolina Public Service Commission, at the utilities' request, has set a Jan. 29, 2027, deadline to rule on the merger proposal. Regulatory agencies in Virginia and North Carolina will also hold hearings on the merger request.
