Today, Duke Energy Florida unveiled the DeBary Hydrogen Production Storage System in Volusia County, the nation’s first demonstration project with an end to end system that can produce, store, and combust up to 100% green hydrogen. This one-of-a-kind system uses solar power from the DeBary site to create green hydrogen, safely storing it until it’s needed most. When demand peaks, that stored hydrogen fuels an upgraded turbine, powered by GE Vernova technology, that can run on a blend of natural gas and hydrogen or up to 100% hydrogen. This flexibility diversifies our generation fleet and supports the expansion of renewable energy. “Diverse generation is strong, reliable generation,” said Duke Energy Florida President Melissa Seixas. “The DeBary hydrogen project underscores Duke Energy Florida’s deep understanding of that notion and our commitment to making strategic infrastructure investments that will allow us to continue providing value for our customers while meeting their rapidly increasing demand for energy.” Learn more about the project: http://spr.ly/6049CoUTb.
