Etched: Chip Startup Doubles Valuation in One Month

According to TechCrunch, the US AI chip startup Etched has raised 700 million dollars in a new funding round at a valuation of 21 billion dollars. The jump in valuation is enormous; after all, the young company had an estimated value of five billion dollars last January (we reported). The current financing is already the second in a short period. In July, the young company raised over 300 million dollars in a Series C at a valuation of 10.3 billion dollars. Now, investors have doubled the valuation to 21 billion dollars within one month, an increase of almost 11 billion dollars.Jane Street led the funding round after the renowned quant fund tested and purchased the startup's AI hardware. Etched is often considered a rival to Nvidia. Founded in 2022, the young company delivers its AI technology as complete systems, similar to Nvidia's AI Factories. Co-founder and COO Robert Wachen explained to TechCrunch that investors are so enthusiastic because Etched has developed two new components from scratch to accelerate inference, which is the computing process that occurs after users enter prompts.
