Last Thursday, the world football association announced the end of its long-standing partnership with the Italian company Panini. Instead of Panini, starting in 2031, the company Fanatics, whose business field extends to sports betting, will issue the legendary collectible cards. «FIFA and Fanatics have signed a long-term exclusive licensing agreement for various collectibles, including stickers as well as trading cards and card games,» FIFA announced. The announcement by FIFA marks the end of a 60-year collaboration with the Modena-based company. The company, founded in the early 1960s by the four Panini brothers, has had an exclusive agreement with FIFA since 1970 for the legendary World Cup sticker albums. With the first World Cup sticker album – in Mexico in 1970 – Panini made its leap onto the world stage. However, the first sports sticker album released by Panini dates back to the 1961/62 Italian Serie A season. On the cover was the Swedish striker Nils Liedholm, then with AC Milan. The very first printed player image was Bruno Bolchi, then captain of Inter Milan. The last album, in turn, will be that of the 2030 World Cup, the anniversary edition, which will be jointly hosted by Morocco, Portugal, and Spain.
