The Oklahoma City-based company has applied for permits in the past few months to transform the 67,000-square-foot Valley Furniture location in Sonoma County at 380 Rohnert Park Expressway into one of its 1,000-plus locations nationwide. The city issued a use permit for the store parking lot on Feb. 6. The retailer currently has 69 stores in California, including two in the North Bay. Construction on a third, in Petaluma, is underway. From a tiny shop in 1972, Hobby Lobby has grown into retailing empire, with annual revenues estimated by Forbes to be around $8 billion. According to the company, each Hobby Lobby store has more than 80,000 crafting and home decor products. Those include floral, fabric, needle art, custom framing, baskets, home accents, kitchen, bath, wearable art, arts and crafts, jewelry making, scrapbooking, party, and paper crafting supplies. It's not clear when the Rohnert Park store is expected to open, but typical timelines for refitting a building of that size into a store could push that date into next year.
