Martin Luther King Jr. Community Hospital’s emergency department was designed for 25,000 patient visits per year. Currently it serves 125,000 per year, many triaged in tents in the parking lot. Today Kaiser Permanente announced a $25 million commitment to support MLK Community Healthcare's emergency department and sustain its high quality of care in one of Los Angeles’ highest-need communities. The private, nonprofit hospital in South Los Angeles opened in 2015 and maintains 4- to 5-star quality ratings from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Our commitment will support construction that will meet the community’s growing demand for health care services. We will also buy and lend a $7 million, temporary modular emergency care facility to maintain patient access during construction. https://k-p.li/4cxMe2B
