A Yakima facility providing blood tests and other medical procedures has expanded to include a new laboratory and expanded patient service center. Labcorp held a grand opening on July 15 for its remodeled facility on 1104 W. Spruce St., including a STAT lab (the name refers to quick results), five or six phlebotomist stations and three automated patient check-in stations. "We test any kind of fluids that come out of the body," said Debbie Didzerekis, senior marketing executive for Labcorp, as she hosted the afternoon open house event. The lab and patient services center, located a couple blocks south of the Rainier Medical Office Building, has served the Yakima community for more than 30 years, Didzerekis said. It was formerly known as Pathology Associates before it was acquired by the Labcorp clinical laboratory network, which has more than 2,200 testing facilities across the U.S. She said the facility's lab area tests blood and other fluids collected on site as well as samples shipped from other medical offices across the Yakima Valley, including the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinics. "The STAT lab, one of the new parts of this (facility), provides a full menu of the most common tests that we can run right here," Didzerekis said. "Doctors can have results within four hours."
