- Telefónica has created a new Hardware and Devices Division within its consumer business, bringing its growing devices operation under one roof. The new division will be led by Alberto Ruano, who is currently General Manager of Lenovo for Spain and Portugal, effective from 1 October. He will report to Óscar Candiles, Chief Revenue Officer of Telefónica Spain, and will also become a member of the company's Executive Committee. Ruano will oversee the devices business from product selection and supplier negotiations through to commercial strategy, procurement, logistics, supply chain and financial performance. The decision comes as between January and August 2026, the operator sold 900,000 devices, 10% more than in the same period last year. Meanwhile, the telecoms giant sees the new division as a way to give the devices business more focus and room to grow, following a model it has used for other parts of the company, including pay TV and digital services for businesses. Telefónica Spain, Chairman and CEO, Borja Ochoa, said: "Customers no longer come to Movistar solely for a mobile phone.
