LAYTON, Utah - Northrop Grumman opened a new facility in Layton on Tuesday, expanding its Utah footprint as production of the B-21 Raider moves forward . The East Gate 3 building will support production tied to the Air Force's next-generation stealth bomber program. Earlier this year, the Air Force announced plans to accelerate B-21 Raider production. Chris Adams, Northrop Grumman's B-21 vice president and program manager, said Utah will play an important role in delivering the capability. "Our highly skilled workforce continues to grow here in the state, and Utah will be critical along our path to delivering this capability at speed," Adams said. " The B-21 Raider will define U.S. strategic air power for years to come, and we're proud to build key components of that system right here in Layton." The B-21 is designed to be a long-range strategic bomber. Tom Jones, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems, described it as an important future deterrence platform. "We do need platforms like the B-21," Jones said. "I believe it will be the prominent deterrent weapons system of the future. This is what is going to help keep peace and stability in the world, the platform that we're building here."
