The French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi is acquiring a 26.4% stake in the Greifswald-based pharmaceutical company Cheplapharm. In return, the family-owned company will receive 20 pharmaceutical brands from Sanofi, including the blood thinner Lovenox, also known as Clexane, as both companies announced on Monday. For the first time, Cheplapharm will also manufacture its own medicines in the future: The company from Vorpommern is taking over the three factories in Hungary, Singapore, and France, where Lovenox is produced, with a total of 565 employees. Cheplapharm itself employs 800 people and had previously always outsourced pharmaceutical production to service providers. Sanofi and Cheplapharm have been working together since 2014, but there has been no equity participation until now.
