Scale AI has appointed Francis deSouza Chief Executive Officer. He took over the role on August 10, succeeding Jason Droege, who had served as interim CEO since June 2025 and will remain with the company during the transition. Droege assumed the role after Scale founder Alexandr Wang left to lead Meta's AI organization following its $14.3 billion investment in the company. Wang remains Chairman of Scale's board. He previously led genomics company Illumina, where annual revenue grew to more than $4.5 billion, and held senior roles at Symantec. Earlier in his career, he founded two companies that were acquired by Microsoft and Symantec. "My focus will be getting Scale's solutions into more businesses and governments, delivering the best data for AI labs, and showing our value through provable outcomes," deSouza said. Scale built its business by providing the labeled data used to train and evaluate AI models. It has since expanded into software for businesses and governments, recently adding BP and Mayo Clinic as customers. The company's applications business is expected to surpass its data division in revenue within 18 months, according to The Next Web. Read more
