(SDI) has reported record steel shipments of 3.7 million tons and a net sales figure of $6.1 billion in this year's second quarter. SDI says its Mississippi-based aluminum operations recorded nearly $500 million of revenue during the quarter. The company, which recently has added recycled-content aluminum production to its existing network of recycled-content steel mills, has reported net income of $534 million for the second quarter, signifying a 79 percent increase compared with net income one year earlier. SDI says its second quarter 2026 net income figure was reduced by a $16 million "non-cash asset impairment charge related to the decision to relocate the company's planned second satellite aluminum recycled slab center from Arizona to Columbus, Mississippi." "During the second quarter 2026 steel pricing continued to improve resulting in strong performance across our steel platform, driving a sequential quarterly increase in consolidated operating income of $162 million, or 30 percent," says Mark D. Millett, board chairman and CEO of SDI. "Our metals recycling, steel fabrication and aluminum teams also had a solid performance," he continues.
