This is the second largest acquisition in AMD's history, behind that of Xilinx in 2022 for approximately 50 billion dollars. But if one measures what 'each dollar invested' has brought, this transaction might well deserve to be examined from every angle, more so than the Xilinx deal. Because AMD did not buy a product line, nor a software stack, nor even a revenue-generating business entity. World Labs has not disclosed any revenue data to date, and its team numbers fewer than 100 people. The 8.2 billion dollars paid by AMD buys a group of people who are currently defining 'what computing capabilities will be needed for the next generation of AI'.
