Chime has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Stride Bank for $590 million in cash, bringing one of its longstanding banking partners directly into the financial technology company’s platform. Stride has partnered with Chime for more than seven years. Following completion, Stride is expected to become Chime Bank, N.A., operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Chime. The combination would provide Chime with its own nationally chartered bank subsidiary, integrating Chime’s technology platform and member relationships with Stride’s banking infrastructure. Chime serves more than 10 million Active Members. Chime expects ownership of the bank to accelerate product development by integrating its ChimeCore AI-native technology stack with Stride’s banking infrastructure, while reducing handoffs between technology and regulated banking operations. The company also expects the combination to eliminate partner-bank fees, lower funding costs and improve unit economics. The acquisition is expected to be immediately accretive to Chime’s earnings per share, with Chime forecasting more than $100 million in net synergies from sponsor-bank fee savings, lending expansion and lower funding costs.
