One Business, One Website & Need to Simplify My SSL Renewal Process

I need more information about Certbot and Let's Encrypt and automating my SSL renewal. I have one website for my own business that I created and manage myself. All the information I can find about automating this process is written for sysadmins and coders and other folks managing multiple domains, and I get lost very quickly. (Like this page.) Or maybe dismayed is a better word. I know how to copy text into a text file, change the file extension and upload that file to my server. I can find and edit existing files, and can turn something on or off if its accessible in my C-Panel. My current host is GoDaddy which apparently is not cooperative with CertBot or Lets Encrypt. Can I, a reasonably experienced advanced beginner, set up an automated SSL renewal system for my website? Is it really free? Do I need a new host? If I were to change hosts, what is the cheapest, reliable provider? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

  • [comment u/AlertThinker] If you use Cloudflare, you can use their SSL and don't have to worry about this. Does not require a change of provider, either.

  • “You can move to another cPanel host extremely easily and ditch GoDaddy instead of trying to setup an SSL tool. Look at the sidebar of this subreddit under "Friends of r/webhosting", for example NixiHost can do a cPanel to cPanel move for you and they offer certbot/Let's Encrypt so you don't have to mess with trying to install an SSL by hand.”

  • “Yes, GoDaddy hides/disables the let's encrypt SSL issuance feature on many of their shared plans. You will not be able to use certbot because it needs root access to the server which you don't get in shared hosting. You need to change your hosting company. Namecheap is also same like GoDaddy who wants us to pay for SSL when it's literally free everywhere else. You can go with verpex's shared plan.”

  • “I think it’s insane that people are even charging for SSL. Not every thing needs monetization. I think if you’re going the extra mile to have authenticated backend for transactions then that endeavor should suffice.”
