As our SPARC fusion machine moves closer to operation, important work is already underway: validating the support systems critical to making it possible. Ahead of commissioning the SPARC tokamak itself, CFS is working toward SPARC's dry dress rehearsal (DDR), a comprehensive test of the plant's critical support infrastructure. Although the heart of SPARC's fusion operation often takes the spotlight - aspects like cold magnets and hot plasmas - achieving that depends on an integrated collection of systems working together seamlessly, including: ⚛️ Cryogenic systems that keep superconducting magnets at very cold temperatures ⚡ Power systems that deliver electricity to those magnets 🔥 Radio-frequency systems that help heat plasma to 100M° Celsius 🧲 Vacuum pumping equipment to enable plasma creation and help keep magnets cool As tokamak assembly continues, these supporting systems are already being validated under real operating conditions. Working in parallel on the tokamak and these supporting systems lets us move as fast as possible toward demonstrating Q>1, a major milestone on the path to commercial fusion energy. As CFS CEO and Co-founder Bob Mumgaard explains DDR: "We operate the entire plant, just minus the tokamak. The plant itself is going through all the loads as if it was powering the tokamak." #FusionEnergy #Energy
