On August 16, 2026, Deutsche Telekom announced the acquisition of Fiberhost and Inea, two Polish fiber optic operators, from Macquarie Asset Management for approximately one billion euros. In reality, a signal of two simultaneous trends: the consolidation of digital infrastructure in Central Europe by major operators, and the systematic rotation of infrastructure assets by private equity funds that had invested massively in fiber during the 2018-2023 cycle. Fiberhost and Inea are two established fiber optic network operators in Poland. Fiberhost operates primarily in the south of the country and has developed a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network covering several hundred thousand subscribers. Inea is located in the Poznań region and the industrial areas of Western Poland, with a positioning more oriented towards businesses and local authorities. Together, they represent significant infrastructure in a Polish fiber market that is among the most dynamic in Central Europe - Poland has one of the highest fiber penetration rates among EU member countries that joined after 2004.
