New tariff conditions for new customers came into effect at Deutsche Telekom on Thursday. For most DSL contracts in the MagentaZuhause series, the Bonn-based group will in future charge one Euro more per month. Only the entry-level tariffs Basic and Start are exempt from this price increase. For new customers with pure fiber optic connections and the XXL Hybrid tariff option, the monthly basic price increases by two Euros. The company is also raising fees in the streaming and television segment. The monthly price for MagentaTV SmartStream for new customers rises to 20 Euros instead of the previous 17 Euros. If a broadband connection and the television package are booked together, the surcharge for new contracts totals up to 5 Euros per month. The focus on new customer business follows a clear logic. In the case of unilateral price changes during an existing minimum contract period, the Telecommunications Act generally provides for a special right of termination for consumers. By applying the increases primarily to new contracts, Deutsche Telekom avoids waves of cancellations in its stable customer base and protects existing revenues. Parallel to its private customer business, the DAX company is strengthening its activities in the large customer segment.
