What happened

In October 2026 Deutsche Telekom patented a way to set up optical connectivity between two locations across a telecommunications network for customer-defined signals.

Source

Abstract

A method for establishing a network-internal transmission functionality for providing, via a telecommunications network, a communication or connectivity service between a first location and a second location based on optical data transmission of a user-defined optical signal includes the following steps: in a first step, the establishment of the network-internal transmission functionality is triggered; and in a second step, the network-internal transmission functionality is established by causing a plurality of optical network nodes to apply at least one transmission path based on at least one piece of transmission path information.
