Dollar General chief Todd Vasos said in a second-quarter earnings call to laude the company's $1 price point, sharing plans to dramatically expand it into the holiday season in a competitive push against Dollar Tree and Walmart. Vasos told analysts that Value Valley, which accounts for Dollar General's rotating assortment of $1 items, recorded over 16% growth in comparable sales in the second quarter, outpacing the chain's overall 3.5% same-store sales gain. Dollar General plans to increase its dollar-priced listings by 40% more than what it had a year ago, with $1 off-shelf displays in more than 9,000 stores on track to reach all locations this year.
