Homes and businesses were demolished, including the city’s only grocery store, when a tornado tore through the community of Marietta, OK in April 2024. “We’ve been in a food desert for a year and a half, so that’s problematic,” said chamber of commerce president Kendra Tucker in an interview with local tv station, KXII. But with the grocer not rebuilding, Dollar General, whose store was also destroyed in the storm, came to the rescue – constructing a new DG Market to provide essentials for the community, including fresh fruits, vegetables and meat. “This will help the community tremendously,” said Marietta city administrator Scott Chaney. “It’s going to open up an avenue for them to get groceries in town.” Watch the story: https://lnkd.in/gMaAD7tX
