The company is based in Somerville near Boston and manufactures in Weirton, West Virginia. It was founded in 2017 by Mateo Jaramillo, among others, who co-developed the Powerwall at Tesla.The round is larger than initially reported: Axios had reported up to 500 million dollars in January, which ultimately became 750 million. It was led by asset manager T. Rowe Price. New to the round are Sequoia Capital, Janus Henderson, Franklin Templeton, and PEAK6 Investments. Existing investors include Breakthrough Energy Ventures, TPG Rise Climate, Coatue, and GE Vernova. Morgan Stanley handled the private placement as the sole agent.
