PORTLAND, Ore. ( KOIN ) – Washington County commissioners and the City of Tualatin approved an agreement with Lam Research Corp., which aims to generate an investment of up to $1.7 billion in Tualatin through 2041, officials announced Tuesday. After the county and city okayed the deal, under the Strategic Investment Program, the agreement now goes before the Oregon Business Development Commission for approval. The agreement will support Lam's plans for a large research and development campus with state-of-the-art technology, Washington County said. The agreement requires Lam Research to make payments to the city and county instead of paying property taxes as a way to support community services and to spur job growth. The agreement includes partial tax breaks starting in 2028 or 2029, county officials said. Additionally, Lam's payments to the city and county will increase by $200,000 every year for 15 years, with an initial fee of $400,000 and the final fee landing at $3.2 million. Officials noted the proposal also includes an estimated $111 million in property tax and fee revenue over the 15-year life of the agreement. Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
