Leidos Breaks Ground on Major Defense Expansion in Lawton

Caitlin Gatlin | Communications & Marketing Manager Federal, state and local leaders joined Leidos officials Tuesday afternoon at Central Plaza for the groundbreaking of Project New Heights, a major defense industry expansion expected to bring new jobs and investment to Lawton-Fort Sill. The project will establish two facilities totaling approximately 300,000 square feet, including a 200,000-square-foot Prototype Integration Facility at FISTA Innovation Park and a separate 100,000-square-foot depot support facility near the Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport. The facilities will support advanced manufacturing, systems integration, testing, modernization and sustainment for defense programs. U.S. Rep. Tom Cole, Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, credited the Lawton-Fort Sill community for developing the vision and making the initial investments that helped FISTA become a growing defense hub. "This is a remarkable achievement," Cole said, describing the project as a testament to the community's determination to strengthen both Lawton and national defense. Mayor Stan Booker called the project the largest economic development project in Lawton, in terms of payroll dollars, in nearly 50 years.
