The conflict is not limited to the similarity between both logos. New Balance also focused on the economic value it built around its visual identity and on the investment dedicated for decades to directly associating the letter N with its products. "New Balance has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in promoting its 'N' brands and in establishing an exclusive association between said brands and New Balance as the origin of the product," the lawsuit states. The dispute also pits two companies with multi-billion dollar global businesses against each other. New Balance closed the last full fiscal year with sales of 9.2 billion US dollars, a 19% growth compared to 2024 and its fifth consecutive year with double-digit advances. Decathlon, for its part, ended the last fiscal year with a turnover of 16.8 billion euros, 3.7% more than the previous year, when it had registered sales of 16.2 billion euros.
