The Altoona, Pa.-based company invested approximately $8 million into the redevelopment initiative at the southwest corner of Van Dyke Avenue and 22 Mile Road, according to the Shelby Township Downtown Development Authority (DDA). Township Supervisor Rick Stathakis, Macomb County Commission Sylvia Grot, Shelby Township Clerk Stanley Grot, and Heather Schmuckel, business director at the Macomb County Chamber joined Sheetz employees and company representatives in the opening day festivities. Nearly 300 people attended the celebration. "We're proud to open the first Sheetz in Shelby Township, and we look forward to being part of this community for years to come," company spokesperson Nick Ruffner said in a news release. "This is just the beginning of our relationship here, and we can't wait to see it grow alongside the community." In honor of the grand opening, Sheetz donated $2,500 to both Special Olympics Michigan and Forgotten Harvest, continuing the company's commitment to giving back wherever it opens its doors.
