Tesla has expanded its self-driving Robotaxi service through much of the greater Houston region, with a service map in the shape of a rocket. "I swear it's just a coincidence," Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the richest man in the world who lives in Texas, said in a post on X, which he also owns. Houston, we have liftoff Bigger service area now live https://t.co/ps8fZmWpuP - Robotaxi (@robotaxi) October 26, 2026 Robotaxis had previously been operating in the northwest portion of Houston, near Jersey Village. Now, riders can hail Robotaxis throughout much of the 610 Loop and northwest Houston. The rocket-shaped map, though, indicates the northeast portion of the loop won't have service. The Robotaxi service uses Tesla's Cybercab and Model Y vehicles, with fully autonomous services. The Cybercab doesn't have a steering wheel or pedals, unlike the Model Y. At least three autonomous vehicle companies are operating in the Houston area: Tesla's Robotaxis, Waymo, and Amazon's Zoox, the latter of which is still testing and cannot be hailed for rides by the public. Tesla's Robotaxis operate in Austin and Dallas, as well as Houston, with plans to serve San Antonio in the future. Rides can be hailed on the Robotaxi app, and prices are estimated ahead of time, like other ride-hailing services.
