MINOT, ND ( KXNET ) - Affordable housing and financial literacy are two challenges communities face across North Dakota. Wells Fargo said it wants to tackle both with a new investment in Minot. The company is putting $1.2 million toward affordable senior housing and financial education in the Magic City. One million of that goes to Beyond Shelter, a non-profit housing developer, to help build senior housing in Minot. Wells Fargo is also donating a former bank branch to the project. Once it's done, the project is expected to provide more than 40 units. The other $200,000 goes to Junior Achievement North to expand financial education programs statewide. "Helping people be financially literate are so important that people have the skills they need when they start in school and carry forward," Wells Fargo head of public affairs Jason Rosenberg said. "Doesn't matter what they do, ensure that they're able to have housing to start their career and carry it through their life. Education and housing are two of the tenets to a real strong community, ensuring that economic growth will continue." Since its founding Beyond Shelter has developed or preserved more than 1,800 affordable homes across North Dakota. Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now
