Federal Contract Award Signals

A federal contract award is budget confirmation. When a company wins government business, they're hiring, buying tools, and scaling operations — often within 60 days of the award date.

What Are Federal Contract Award Signals?

Every federal contract award over $10,000 is publicly disclosed on SAM.gov within 24-48 hours of award. This creates a real-time signal stream of which private companies are winning government business, what agencies are buying, what categories are being funded, and how large the contracts are.

Autobound processes SAM.gov award data daily and matches awards to companies in its database using DUNS/SAM registration, entity name, and domain co-reference. Each signal includes the award amount, awarding agency, NAICS code, performance period, and a plain-language description of the work to be performed.

Federal contract wins are particularly powerful signals because they confirm budget in a way that funding rounds do not. A $48M Army contract means the company has contractually guaranteed revenue — they're not speculating about demand. This is the best possible signal for vendors who sell into defense-adjacent companies, government contractors, and public sector technology providers.

Beyond defense, federal contract awards appear across every industry vertical: healthcare IT, cybersecurity, logistics, environmental services, and professional services all see significant government business. Any company in your ICP that wins federal contracts is a high-confidence, high-budget prospect.

Use Cases

How Sales Teams Use Federal Contract Award Signals

1

Immediate Expansion Outreach

A company that just won a large federal contract is about to hire. Reach out to their Head of Talent or VP of Operations within the first 30 days of the award — the staffing and tooling conversations are already happening internally.

2

Agency-Based Prospecting

Filter contract awards by awarding agency to find clusters of vendors winning business from the same buyer. Companies that sell to the same federal agencies often have similar infrastructure and tooling needs.

3

NAICS Code Vertical Targeting

Use NAICS codes to find award winners in your target vertical. If you sell cybersecurity tooling, filter for NAICS 541512 and 541519 — the companies winning those contracts are your warmest prospects.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the source for federal contract data?
All federal contract awards are sourced from SAM.gov (System for Award Management), the official U.S. government database for federal procurement. Data is updated daily as new awards are published.
Do you cover state and local government contracts?
Currently we cover federal contracts only (SAM.gov). State and local government contract coverage is on the roadmap.
What is the minimum contract size tracked?
We track all SAM.gov-disclosed awards, which includes contracts over $10,000. Signal relevance scores are calibrated to surface larger, more significant awards by default.
