I recently encountered a generic error when attempting to register a domain. Error message detail: [We can't finish registering your domain. Contact AWS Support at https://console.aws.amazon.com/support/home?region=us-east-1#/case/create?issueType=customer-service&serviceCode=service-domains&categoryCode=registration-issue I have 3 other domains registered in the account. I also have Business Support+ on the account and opened a support case that was closed as resolved 24 hours later with this response: Your account is currently restricted from performing additional domain registrations. Unfortunately, we are unable to lift this restriction at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Surprised with this response given that I have a paid support plan. Any advice?

  • “I just would not register a domain with AWS. There isn’t really a good reason to. You can still use Route 53 with a Hosting Zone so the DNS can be easily updated without registering the domain there.”

  • “You might want to check if there's a limitation on the number of domains you can register under your account. I've seen accounts limited to 5 domains due to billing issues.”

  • “I understand the confusion. Send us your case ID in a private message. We'll be able to dive deeper and provide any insights. - Randi S.”

  • “A lot of times AWS Support can't tell you anything with issues like this. A canned response like this usually comes directly from the trust and safety side of the fence (the folks who handle things like fraud and abuse) and they won't give any more specific information about it.”

  • “Never use the same registrar as your cloud provider”
