So, before I get called out for being weak and now wanting to “hit the phones”. I understand the work equals rewards and these business out there if you just hammer the phones. (I have a 30-40k a month book at 60% commission, I built from zero in one year) However, I’m wanting to keep growing and have a good team I’ve put together underneath me. But I’m starting to have nightmares and overwhelming fear that the mega brokers (CH Rob.), there software finding market bottom, etc is going to completely annihilate us small guys within the next year. How is everyone dealing with this? I understand “we all have to integrate AI, blah blah blah. But is anyone freaking out the one of the coming Mondays you are gonna call your customers, they laugh and say no “we are good, we have our portal access with CH and we will reach out if we need anything? Lol 🫠

  • [comment u/Equal-Document4213] Ill tell you right now, the AI at CHR is alright, but far from perfect. Like someone else mentioned, the moat they have is easier to cross now given the availability of these tools for smaller brokers.

  • “The industry has changed from when I started in 2010. Back then there was only a handful of brokers and getting the giant customer was a simpler process. I think nowadays the market is saturated with brokers and the overall economy has slowed down post COVID. Covid for me was the best time and the margins were 40 percent at times. Over the next 5 years AI will change our industry. When automated”

  • “The fear is understandable, but customers don’t stay with smaller brokers just because of rates. They stay for responsiveness, trust and someone who can handle the mess when a portal can’t. AI may squeeze margins, but it won’t replace strong relationships overnight.”

  • “I love to hear that and maybe I just need to get a little more confident on how AI can help the small brokers. My fear is just with large networking systems and “Happy Robot ish” call that there is just gonna be no way we can compete with them on rates/truck capacity. Which we all know is really all that matters to these customers. I’m maybe work $25-$50 more than the other guy”

  • “Portals don't fix exceptions on the dock, they just hide the calls until something breaks. Shippers still need a human who eats the blame when a load falls through, that's your moat.”
