Hey everyone, I just graduated from the AWA fiber technician training program, which places people into data center fiber jobs. There's not much about it online, so I figured I'd answer questions for anyone considering it. Happy to cover how you get in, what the weeks of training actually look like (housing, food, the hands-on material), how the placement and job offer process works, and whether I'd recommend it. I'm just a graduate, not an official rep, so this is my own experience. Ask away.

  • [comment u/1mma_Pr0bl3m] So I applied on the CBRE site about a week ago maybe and immediately got sent the assessment within an hour. This was Oct 21st. Today, Oct 28th I had my interview.

  • [comment u/1mma_Pr0bl3m] What she keep asking is if I was ok moving to Richmond, VA.

  • “How long is the training program? Also, do you get paid while you are in training? Is there an idea of how much the job is going to pay as well?”

  • “Did you sign the job contract before the training? If yes what is the minimum pay? Did you got by applying directly in cbre job portal or on meta workforce website? When you finish the training what certificate you get? What you will be able to do?”

  • “Did you get a sense of how competitive the program is to get selected? Like is 100 selected out of a million applicants or something a little more optimistic? And I know its entry level aimed but any advice to get an advantage to get selected? Oh also, just curious, what was the demographic makeup of the other applicants? Like all young graduates or older career transitioners? Or a good mix?”
