Hi All, I've recently started a role as a NOC engineer supporting and monitoring Ethernet & ODU transport clients. We only use Ciena hardware and i'm looking to know if anyone has any recommendations on where I can learn the theoretical side of everything Optical/DWDM and where is a good place to start. I have passed my Optical Communications Associate test but looking to deep dive into learning more about Optical & DWDM networks.

Also quoted as evidence

  • [comment u/infosecurity_prof] Ciena website has a lot of good white papers.

  • [comment u/nullthing] Ciena’s Optical communications associate study guide is amazing.

  • “Since you will be working as a NOC operator, while the technical aspects of the job are important, your primary responsibility is to monitor DWDM devices during alarm conditions and then report the issue to the relevant operations team. These monitoring procedures vary from device to device. You’ll learn these as you gain experience. Manufacturers typically share this documentation with customers”
