I'm looking to install level 2 charging before the winter season hits us, and I keep seeing the most well regarded level 2 charger is the Emporia one. However, they have been out of stock on the hardwire option for a bit now and I'm unsure how often they go back in stock. Does anyone know how long that typically takes? They have stock of their Nema 14-50 plug options, and frankly, I'm starting to just consider going that route. Is the plug option *really* that big of a hazard when properly installed with a good quality EV certified receptacle? I see so many people using this option that it honestly just feels like fearmongering at a certain point, but enough people urge to hardwire that I genuinely don't know what to believe anymore. Also regarding other hardwire options, does anyone know of other reputable brands that don't require converting it into hardwire (like Grizzle-E) and are similarly priced to Emporia's? Thank you.

  • [comment u/ArlesChatless] High quality receptacle. This still basically means using the Bryant/Hubbell one.

Proper torque of the wiring connections. You don't want to do this just with your calibrated arm. GFCI breaker if you're somewhere on 2017+ NEC. • “It's not that the corded version is unsafe...it's not...it's that too many people/electricians install cheap 14-50 plugs that aren't rated for or built to withstand for the load.”

  • “You can hardwire it the emporia chargers that come with plugs. There are instructions in the manual. The corded version I think comes default set to the correct setting, but the app can change that when commissioning. Make sure the gauge if the hardwired whip is correct for your breaker. Big box hardware store sell water tight whip kits, usually listed for AC/Heat Pump. Then make sure to torqu”
