Hi guys, I am a foreign founder and have a successful consulting business in SEA. I opened a US LLC with Doola. The process was smooth and easy. Now that I have an all the documents sorted including EIN, I applied to mercury and quo and both rejected my application. No reason provided. I can’t find any red flags in my setup. Does anyone here have any experience with this?

  • [comment u/tallyandtaxes] For Mercury specifically, I’d look closely at two things: the address you used and what you told them about your actual/planned U.S. operations.

  • [comment u/petartod] Btw, if you have no ties to the US market, Mercury won't open an account.

  • “if your actual customers and operations are entirely in sea that may be more relevant to the rejection than the fact that your llc was formed through doola.”

  • “The LLC and EIN may be perfectly fine. Bank approval is a separate issue from whether the entity was formed correctly. For Mercury specifically, I’d look closely at two things: the address you used and what you told them about your actual/planned U.S. operations. They do accept foreign founders, but they require a real principal place of business address (not a registered-agent, PO box or mailbo”

  • “Where exactly are you located? Mercury explicitly disallows applicants living anywhere on its prohibited countries list. Other than that, it's probably an address issue. Biggest mistake I see people make is putting down their registered agent address for everything. Most banks only allow your RA address to be used as your legal address, not your operating/business address.”

  • “What country you reaide in? is it a restricted country? Btw, if you have no ties to the US market, Mercury won't open an account.”

  • “Having the LLC and EIN is only step one. Unfortunately, the EIN is not a VIP pass into Mercury :-) Two rejections don't necessarily mean anything is wrong with your LLC. These platforms make their own KYC/risk decisions, especially with foreign founders. Before applying to 12 more fintechs and collecting rejection emails like Pokémon cards, I'd check that your website, business description, ad”
