Facebook creating discount codes in my Shopify backend

Highlighted: the lines this signal was extracted from

I got a weird discount code in an order today, and saw that Facebook had created hundreds of one-time use discount codes without our knowledge. Has anyone had this happen? I can’t find any info on it. I don’t mind giving discounts, but it’s insane to me that Facebook has access to my Shopify backend to create discounts without my consent. Any info from the community on this would be amazing.

  • [comment u/Natasha_Limed] The fact that the workaround is "remove the Facebook app" instead of a simple toggle tells you everything about how this integration is designed.

  • “check meta commerce manager under settings promotions especially the email sign up offer there have been reports of the facebook and instagram integration generating shopify discount codes even when merchants thought the promotion was disabled .”

  • “When I run ads on Meta there’s an option to run promo codes. If everything’s hooked up and this is turned on, FB creates codes in Shopify.”

  • “I’d definitely check what integration or promotion feature is creating them before assuming the platform just decided to go rogue. Some sales-channel or campaign features can generate single-use codes behind the scenes, especially for dynamic promotions. The weird part is the volume, hundreds of codes would make me want to audit permissions and recent campaign settings immediately. I’d also check”
