Today, our TV newsroom was shocked to get voluntary buyout offers from paramount. It was given to every staff member which is unusual. I’m a 38-year-old tv news producer and now I’m suddenly having to think about my future. I’m concerned on where the industry is going but I have NO CLUE what else I could do or how I could get another job. Anyone else get offered this today? What are your thoughts on the future of TV news. Thanks

  • [comment u/ultraprismic] Man, 8 weeks of severance wouldn’t motivate me to jump into this job market.

  • [comment u/Sea-Animator-7987] hi I’m 26 and at paramount and we all got the email as well - we also think it’s aimed more at WFH folks because the first round of buyouts/layoffs (a year ago today) was targeting the same.

  • “Honestly, this post feels like I wrote it. The Skydance folks did this last year around this time with CBS/CBS News, and two rounds of layoffs later, it’s like what else are they going to cut unless they plan to merge CNN and CBS News or something? Basically every move the Bari Weiss era has been a bust in ratings and morale. She’s pretty much physically non-existent in the newsroom compared to”

  • “My understanding is that EVERYONE in Skydance got it. The working theory on our end is that it's aimed at the WFH holdouts -- mostly in corporate-land -- since that policy is about to go into effect.”

  • “I truly don’t mean to sound callous but if you work in the news business and have not given thought to what’s next/what if/plan B then you need to start. Ditto if you work for Paramount/WBD - the cost cutting is coming and it won’t be done with a scalpel.”

  • “What are they offering severance wise? How's your debt situation? Ever wanted to be a pirate or anything?”
