[comment u/d0nkyt33th] I know how to do this in Creo and Onshape. Look to see jf there is a function like this in solidworks.
In a discussion about creating complex surfaces in SolidWorks, a commenter noted that they know how to perform the required function using PTC's Creo, implying it has superior capabilities in this area.

“You can also get clean hand meshes from https://humanshape.org/ Create different poses, etc. If you want to create the same style of brace for various hands, one workflow would be to best fit a scan to an individual scan from their database and create the brace. Then you could parametrically create the same brace for other hands.”

“Don't use solid works. You can do it in Meshmixer”

“From a good 3d scan it's easy. Insert STL into SOLIDWORKS. Create block around the aree you need a final part to be (can also do in assembly). And delete intersecting part. Now on that block you have got delete all outer flat faces. You will be left with a shell that you need. Scale it a little big outwards and apply thickness to it. If it's not possible due to some geometry interference - you”

“Aren't they usually made by an orthotist who gets a flattish piece of plastic, and softens it, and then forms around the patient? If it does need to go fully around the hand like a glove, I would think a process such as wrapping your hand in masking tape, cutting it off and scanning the resulting tape shape would give you a nearly model ready shape - something like this.”

“scale up the hand to 105%, combine cut the scales and original. cut extrude the cutoffs where you want them. play with the scale percent for thickness/rigidty.”
