I’ve lost the ability to keep track of what this company is doing anymore. I was a long-time user of the original Shopify-built Digital Downloads app. It was great for my needs for many years. Then it broke spectacularly. All my files were gone. They announced they had abandoned development and I moved on. I spent an entire weekend re-uploading all my files to another app and setting it all up. I had to scramble to rebuild my entire library while my store was live and actively selling. I still can’t forgive them for that. Today I see they have rebranded this and it has a ton of good reviews. I’m paying something like $300 a year for my current solution. It’s not so much the cost that I care about. Anyway, I guess I’m just frustrated and slightly confused. Has anyone used the new version? I have to say, I hesitate to invest time in the relaunched version if they decide to abandon it yet again…

  • [comment u/Moyopal] We tested the rebranded Shopify Digital Downloads app on a small bundle earlier this year and it is still the exact same bare-bones tool underneath, with no PDF stamping, no clean way to push silent file updates to past buyers, and zero real support when a customer download link fails.

  • “I’ve used it for four years with hardly any issues. I think they just renamed it “Digital Products”, but it’s essentially the same. I’ll add that it’s also barely changed at all in those four years, It’s the bare minimum basically. Would love to see more features/support for digital product stores in the future.”
