There are lots of new people here as Zepbound and other GLP1s grow in popularity. I have been on this medication since early 2024. The amount of employer/insurance coverage changes for GLP1s in that time could give you whiplash. If you are fortunate to have insurance coverage, please remember to check your coverage during open enrollment (coming up for many people in the fall). Don’t assume coverage will be there for 2027. Don’t assume coverage criteria will stay the same. Don’t assume your initial BMI will still qualify you for coverage. Don’t assume anything, really. And it doesn’t matter how large or small your employer is. The rising costs of healthcare, including GLP1s, are not sustainable without increasing premiums greatly or cutting benefits or both. And that’s what we are seeing. Starbucks pulled coverage of GLP1s. And Disney just announced it’s dropping coverage of health insurance benefits altogether for spouses of employees if those spouses are offered insurance through their employer. Remember: even if you have coverage, insurance can drop an on-formulary medication any time they want (see Caremark debacle). Some people will see that Zepbound is added back to Caremark’s standard formularies on 10/1… only to see coverage drop altogether a few months later. Be prepared for open enrollment. Hopefully cash pay prices drop again soon as more meds come to...

I couldn’t figure out if I would be covered until I got the rejection to my dr’s authorization which couldn’t even happen until I signed up for their weightloss program. Their website wouldn’t answer it correctly and when I called they wouldn’t tell me. So I imagine they could also change the rules for any of you as well. The correct answ”

  • “We need a law saying that it's illegal to change formulary outside of open enrollment season in a way that removes people's access to drug they are currently taking. Seriously. We get so much BS from our HR about how we need to pay close attention to our benefits and choose wisely & etc. and it doesn't even matter becuase whatever you signed up for (and are paying for) can just change unilaterally”

  • “We’ve also seen instances where it was covered and employers chose to drop it mid-year. Even if you choose something during open enrollment, there’s no guarantee it will remain covered through December 2027. Another thing is changes to the eligibility criteria. Coverage could remain but the minimum BMI is now 35+ or 40+ with 2 comorbidities. Check your insurance portal for letters too. You’ll see”

  • “Yep, GLP-1 RX are switching to only through Virta. It changed for new RX in July and those already on have to change in Jan. I’m absolutely dreading it. My employer said it cost them nearly 40 million and it’s increasing, so I get it, but… I’m still super annoyed, however there is maybe some hope of continued coverage. I’m waiting till after my last refill to contact Virta and I’ll be asking for t”
