[comment u/kjstech] There's a lot of places in PA that also received this letter about copper shutoff.
“Took them long enough. AT&T in Texas stopped installing them 10+ years ago. 911 during a power outage is a good concern, someone should tell the lawmakers that fiber works if the end use has an UPS. And there is of course your cell phone.”

“Parts of rural MS are served by Verizon (formerly Frontier exchanges). AFAIK those customers have already been notified that copper landline service will cease soon. “There's a lot of places in PA that also received this letter about copper shutoff. The issue is Verizon is trying to pull the cart before the horse here. Everyone who've received this letter so far in our Nextdoor and Facebook community threads are in an area where Verizon did not do FIOS. Remember, big red took millions in tax breaks in PA in return to wire the state with Fiber. They didn't even”

“Verizon replaced my grandfather's copper line with a fiber phone service. No internet just a phone service through a fiber modem. When he moved they forced him to get internet to have a phone. So he had to pay for a service he didn't use to get the service he once had.”
