Free coffee is coming. Wawa will host its grand opening in Anderson this week. The party at the new convenience store and gas station at 2512 Scatterfield Road wil kick off a period of free hot coffee. The store opens on Thursday, Aug. 20. Festivities begin with a 7:55 a.m. countdown to the 8 a.m. store opening. The first 100 customers at the opening will get free T-shirts. The opening ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. with the free hot coffee offer, any size, that lasts through Aug. 23. The celebration will include a hoagie-building contest between first responders from local police and fire departments. Known for its made-to-order sandwiches, Pennsylvania-based Wawa entered Indiana in May 2025 with the opening of a Daleville location, and plans to set up more than 70 locations in the state. The Anderson store is the chain's 51st to open in 2026. The company plans to open about 100 nationally this year, including Indiana shops in Bedford, Lawrenceburg, Muncie and Noblesville . In April, it proposed a 6,372-square-foot store at 555 S. Indiana St. in Mooresville. The chain currently has 14 stores in Indiana, including the Lafayette shop launched in June.
